Q Link Wireless is a federally assisted wireless service offered through the U.S. Government’s Lifeline program.
This program allows individuals and families in low-income households to receive telecommunication services at affordable rates. Thus they will not be cut off from basic communication services, which everyone depends on to live a safe, productive life.
To obtain Q Link Wireless service, potential subscribers must meet certain eligibility requirements, such as receiving federal assistance like:
- Food Stamps / Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension
- Federal Public Housing Assistance or Section 8
- Have a household income that is at or below the federal poverty level.
The details of what determines a potential subscriber’s eligibility are specific to each state. Q Link Wireless service is limited to one per household and cannot be combined with any other Lifeline and/or Link-Up offering.
The Q Link Wireless federally assisted wireless offer is part of the Lifeline and Link-Up America programs. The Lifeline Assistance and Link-Up America programs are only one part of the Universal Service Fund (USF), which exists to ensure that quality telecommunications services are available to low-income customers at just, reasonable and affordable rates. Lifeline and Link Up provide discounts that make telephone service (and wireless service) more affordable for more than 17 million Americans.
The Universal Service Fund program is not a tax paid by U.S. taxpayers. The Universal Service Fund program is funded from contributions by telecommunications carriers collected in part from the Universal Service Charge applicable to all forms of interstate telecommunication services. The wire line and wireless companies that provide Lifeline and Link-Up are approved to participate in the low-income program of the Universal Service Fund for the revenue they forgo by providing discounted service to eligible consumers. Q Link Wireless is also committed to the “Wireless Eligible Telecommunication Carrier Commitment to Best Practices.”
